Oh Little Town of Washington (12-8-13)

Oh little town of Washington,
how still we see you lie.
The crap -- a cheap and mean-filled heap --
as silent drones destroy.
In your dark hearts harbored
the everlasting ploy
that hopes and fears of millions here
serious fleecing to provide.
Obama, born of Oprah,
we gathered all around
to push Bush out forever,
a sick, destructive clown.
Alas, our dream aborted.
The Cheney course remains.
Obama’s charm at doling harm.
He’s master of the game.
Our government’s been captured.
Democracy’s destroyed.
The common good, brother-, sister-hood.
In place, sociopathy’s void.
As winter’s chill envelopes
so the heartlessness of State.
Corporate-cronied, criminal enterprise,
a holy hell of hate.
-------------
There was a young woman named Stein
Your votes she did set out to mine
She said, "Give me the hill,
And I promise I will,
Make our nation once more divine.

Well the citizens voted her in
The Republicans thought this a sin.
The Democrats cried
They were fit to be tied
That she came from behind for a win.

.
Disturbing, but very, very good. R
Very true and a sad story
ha. almost forgot about the whole oprah connection
til u reminded me:
"Obama, born of Oprah,
we gathered all around
to push Bush out forever,
a sick, destructive clown."

Something from that rabble rouser Slavoj Zizek:
"Think about the strangeness of today's situation.
Thirty, forty years ago, we were still debating
about what the future will be:
communist, fascist, capitalist, whatever.
Today, nobody even debates these issues.

We all silently accept global capitalism is here to stay.

On the other hand, we are obsessed with cosmic catastrophes:
the whole life on earth disintegrating,
because of some virus,
because of an asteroid hitting the earth,
and so on.

So the paradox is, that it's much easier
to imagine the end of all life on earth
than a much more modest radical change in capitalism. "
destroyeda and voida kind of rhyme with schadenfreude .. just sayin'
This one has your signature, Libby. Well done.
A sad picture. Any hope for next year? R.
Good libby. As jlsathre noted, it's in your own voice.
Only you could have penned such a doleful parody.
And some of it sends shudders.
A true lament.
Rated

Ouch! Calling out "The Usual Suspects"... if only we could exorcise them, but as Keyser Söze in the guise of "Verbal" Kint so eloquently put it, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist... and like that, he's gone."

R&R Libby and take some time to have a Happy Holiday. ;-)

Sky!!! To God's ear on that one. You left out the da*m media since the corporate media created such a blackout of the wonderful Dr. Stein. Even getting arrested 3 times there was NO mention of her and her platform. It was too pro-citizen. While Romney and Obama debated she was handcuffed to a folder chair nearby for 8 hours for protesting no third party candidates in the nationally televised debate. OF COURSE NOT. Can't give populism and humanism any traction. Da*m neolibs who run the Dem party.

That is what scares me so much. The media propagandizing. This society is like the book and movie Fahrenheit 451 where the majority bobble their heads and look to the wall screen to verify and validate when the wall screen is answerable to the controlling rat bastards. And now are we supposed to pin our hopes on Hillary? Aggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

best, libby
Gerald, thanks so much for your validations! Mean a lot!

WF63--thank you. I consider Obama to be the heartbreak prez.

James!!! :-) Global capitalism is destroying itself. Too bad it will take so many innocents down with it! You are so right. Is it surrender, cynicism, brainwashing? Where is the outrage? People are committing suicide in India and elsewhere because of "micro-lending" which was supposed to be the capitalist humanitarian answer to the poor but the interest and repayment plans have the loan sharks calling in their loans in the most unempathetic, sharkishly-infested ways possible and again there are scores of suicides from the brutality of the repayment methods. The ruthlessness astounds of the lending banksters.

trig, sorry, I don't get it clearly. I'm thinking re "schadenfreude", my use of it must've "annoyed ya"???

jl -- thanks so much for stopping by. This poem was cathartic to write, wrote itself very quickly since I have been hammering away so long now at the amorality of this administration.

MCS, yes, it is sad and horrifying! Thanks for stopping by.

Lyle, see my comment to sky about the media. Two captured corporate parties, one actual anti-citizen party with two heads playing at fighting like big time wrestling, and not giving the citizenry anything but cynical bullshit along with a media that is fully captured and owned by corporatists. Democracy no longer exists nor does mainstream journalism. It is propaganda!!! No truth. No empathy. No monitoring of evil. On the contrary, full out enabling of evil. We can't expect help from media or the standing parties.

Abra, yeah, an angry voice, a disgusted voice, a frightened voice, a tired voice, a stubborn voice. :-) I am heartened by getting the reads and the comments on this. I tried to write an open salon poem, but I went to my usual focus. Mass corruption and amorality within the government.

PW, you certainly captured the essence! Great critical analysis, my friend!

James, I will seek your present blog out!

Rudy, great to see you. Thanks for the validation! And links!!!! hope to read soon.

jmac, love that quote from The Usual Suspects. Slickster evilism. We have to call out evil. Awareness is the necessary first step. Then acceptance that this is how bad things are. Then action, we can asset will collectively to change them. Scott Peck said evil is laziness to the nth degree. Too lazy to empathize. Too lazy to assert for anyone but oneself. Too lazy to be human, too lazy to activate the heart and the conscience.

on that note. oh dear.

best, libby
