short 'mother poem' (5-14-12)

You, as mother,
flutter so
with anxiety
and love
over your children.
They humor your attentiveness
and yet
know -- deep down --
that in your tears
they could drown.

Succinct and right on.

No good child ever wants to make poor Mama cry.
Gulp. So, so damned true.
This captures that moment in such sublime truth that were it a a few words longer, its power would lose its mighty grip.
Thanks so much for sharing on the day that's always tough for me.

Excellent!!!

Could I meet you or/and your mom?

I feel that through and through, Libby.
A depth charge on target: the heart.
A beautiful poem. r
